Tell a Tale

Tell a Tale

Duration: 6 Months
Start - End :
November 2010- May 2011
Funded by:
Malta Arts Fund
Objective:

The project titled ‘Tell a Tale: Creativity through intercultural dialogue,’ used theatre and storytelling as a way in which people from very different backgrounds can relate to each other. The participants which were from all around the world including: Europe, Africa and Latin America met weekly for a workshop where laughter, tears, intense moments and stories told of childhood, dreams, homes left behind, love and loss…if the workshop room had ears!! These amazing workshops were only made possible with the energy and passion of the theatre facilitator. During the workshops boundaries were broken and most importantly people who might not have had a chance to meet before- became friends.

Outcomes: There are two outcomes from this project. An event which was held on the 29th May at the Upper Barakka gardens was a part of this. The event was like a mini-festival with seven musicians performing: Thea Garrett, Muxu, Walter Micallef, Raquel and Prosper, Clare Tonna and Mohammed, the West African Drumming Band, Johnny Cash band. There were also theatre and storytelling workshops, drum circles and a book launch.

The book launched at the event was a children’s book which was an outcome of the previous months’ workshops. A professional illustrator and writer got together to work on a story that developed at the workshop. And the story is called ‘Hemm dan il-post li telqulu l-kuluri’ ‘There is a place with vanishing colour.’ The story is based in Malta and is about colour vanishing from the world until a group of children get together to bring the colour back. The book is available for sale at local bookstores, and will hopefully be used in Maltese schools.
